worried sick

Well, my son is down under. I have been the typical worried mom waiting for the news that all is well and that he is safe. Glad the trip went well, but it seemed like for ever from here. I know they will have a good time, but moms will be moms, worry is the middle name.

One down and one to go.

Pride

Why can't anything be easy? Does any one take pride in their work anymore?

We just met with the repair people for our house they are going to come and fix the things that were not done right the first time. Why is there time and money to correct things but never the time money or desire to do thing right the first time. People don't take pride in what they do anymore.

We also have a ditch along side our house. This ditch has been there for the past three weeks waiting for the pool guys to come back and complete the job they started. They are replacing a drain that they removed during the construction of our pool back in JULY yes JULY. Our pool was completed August 3, 2003 but the repairs and fix-it thing are taking FOREVER to complete. WHY??? People don't take pride in what they do anymore.

I can go on and on with the incompetence I have been experiencing lately. Just yesterday I was at a restaurant the waitress barely took our order and brought us the food. We had to flag her down to get more coffee and tea, flag her down for ketchup; she didn't remove any of the dirty dishes and we had to send the bus boy to find her to get our bill. Why???People don't take pride in what they do anymore.

From Pizza delivery to pool construction... Whatever the job, if you say you are going to do something make every effort in your power to complete that job whatever it takes, when you say you are going to do it, do it! And do it with all your skills and with all your ability; put PRIDE back in the job.

What thy hand findth to do, do it with thy might!

BACK TO THE OLD GRIND

Well I have been getting ready to go back to work... Actually looking forward to it. Today I spend the entire day preparing my papers, getting my syllabi re-worked and I don't mind telling you I am tired. I am not saying that I have been sedentary, but the analogy would be an object at rest and trying to get it moving again... That is me.

It is hard getting going again, but I am looking so forward to getting back into a routine again. Because, I love my job. I look forward to getting so much more done mentally, emotionally, physically.

Even though I didn't get to do any of the things I planned to do on my break, I learned a lot about myself... Like I don't need to retire anytime soon. I just need to slow down.Unlike most people that have jobs that go on day after day all year long, I have a job that affords me the opportunity to rejuvenate every year with several breaks throughout the year, I can go on for a long time. I can also set my schedule to do more or less as I feel from semester to semester; so as I see it, I have it pretty good and I can go on for a long, long time making this work for me.

And besides all of the above... I love my job (most of the time) minus the politics of course.

So Spring 2004 ready or not here we come!!!

calendar girls

Starting out the New Year right… we completed some tasks around the house and found time to play. We went to the movies and saw Calendar Girls.

You younger kids probably would not fully appreciate this movie, but as you move down the trail of life this movie takes on different significance…well it did for me, for the most part a fun chic flick. It was a cute, feel good movie. A feel good movie with the exception of one part; I am no movie critic, but I felt that about 10 or 15 minutes of the movie could have been cut out because it didn’t add to the story and I felt that it actually detracted from it.

Interesting study in human nature; modest older women posing nude for a calendar all in the name of good cause. It was a true story. They wanted to raise money for the local hospital to buy a new couch for the waiting room; their calendars made such a hit that they had enough money to build a new wing on the hospital. It just made you stop and go hummmmm.

It reminds me of that famous line that …Most of us die with our music still in us. It just makes me wonder what creative thing is still in you (or me) waiting to get out?????
